- "Daß die hier unter Glas und Rahmen befindliche Locke, vom Kammerrath Göthe kurz vor seiner Abreise nach Italien, meinem seligen Mann, dem Hofkapellmeister Johann Nepomuk Hummel, als Haar seines Vaters, des Dichters, Wolfgang von Göthe, eingehändigt worden ist, bescheinigt hiermit. Betty Hummel." [Translation]: Hereby is certified that the lock of hair, here situated under glass and frame, was handed to my late husband, court conductor Johann Nepomuk Hummel, by chamberlain Goethe, shortly before his departure for Italy, as [being] the hair of his father, the poet Wolfgang von Goethe. Betty Hummel.
