Caernarvon Castle
The entrance through the surrounding wall was of importance, and required protection. It was usual to arrange the approach by a bridge which could be drawn up for defense. Where massiveness and strength were the main considerations, the pointed arch was quite unsuitable, and this low, flat form of arch is typical of castle structures.
