Tower at York
The Romans came to York from Lincoln in about 71 C.E. and established it as the capital of Northern Britain. This massive multi-angular tower survives as the basement of a later medieval bastion, part of the city wall defenses. The smaller courses of gauged Roman masonry can be clearly seen.
