Salisbury Cathedral
Salisbury followed Lincoln in the design of the vault and in the use of Purbeck marble columns, further cutting down the structural mass and allowing great window openings to flood the space with light. All cathedral buildings of this period were designed for stained glass, and many were so furnished that they glowed like jewels, but the reforming zeal of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries swept most of it away.
