Montacute House
At Montecute House, built by Sir Edward Phelips, who was later the Speaker of the House of Commons under the first of the Jacobite kings, the influenced of classical architecture dwindled somewhat. Gothic features are still much in evidence, especially in the exterior elevation and yet there is the Roman arch as an indication of the Italian influence.
