Westminster Abbey

The eastern end of the new building at Westminster terminated in this faceted apse, or chevet, beneath which the shrine of St. Edward the Confessor was installed. The chevet did not influence any subsequent building and lies outside the main stream old English design, nevertheless its building was important for the very fine body of masons who were assembled here and who later dispersed to the provinces.
