Lincoln Cathedral

The contrast between the new Gothic and the Romanesque is strikingly demonstrated at Lincoln, where the Early English rebuilding culminated in a redesigned west front. The Norman west end, with its rebuilt doorways, was incorporated into the new work and tied together with overriding tiers of arcading. At the same time, the central arch was lifted in a giant lancet to meet the new roof of the nave.
