Ted Sahl Archives
User Collection PublicTed Sahl is an award-winning photographer in San Jose, California who spent 30 years as a photojournalist, documenting social and political events in the Bay Area. Although best known for his involvement with the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community, Sahl also covered anti-nuclear demonstrations at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the farm labor strikes that occurred during the 1970s in California. The Digital Collection: The King Library Digital Collection currently includes a representative selection of the 6,000 photographic prints in the collection, and new images are added to the collection periodically. The Physical Collection: The bulk of the Ted Sahl Collection documents Sahl's photographic work with the gay and lesbian community in San Jose and the Bay Area from 1976-2010. In addition to photographs, the collection includes background research and working drafts of Sahl's book From Closet to Community: A Quest for Gay and Lesbian Liberation in San Jose & Santa Clara County (2002), personal papers, published and unpublished essays, and materials related to the San Jose Gay Pride Committee.
