User Collection PublicThe archival portion of the Irene & Jorge Garcia Collection contains an assortment of self-published, printed materials ranging from 1906-1990 that address a variety of political, social, economic, and religious issues, many written within a socialist or communist ideology, in English or Spanish. This collection is a fascinating array of documentation from all eras, examining dissenting and disenfranchised groups from all over the world. The collection includes booklets, journals, pamphlets, even cartoons. Subjects include civil rights in the U.S., Capitalism/Wall Street, communism, Labor, La Raza, Marxism, segregation, socialism, the Chicano movement in the U.S., the U.S. immigrant experience, and U.S. expansionism. The literature addresses issues in Africa, Central America, China, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Israel, Korea, Mexico, Poland, Puerto Rico, South America, the British Empire, the Soviet Union, and Yugoslavia. Personalities include Cesar Chavez, JM Keynes, Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Harry S. Truman, and Mao Zedong (Mao Tse-tung or Chairman Mao).
