Oral History Program Interview Lois Smith Barnes
Born in Washita County, Oklahoma in 1922, Barnes later made two trips to California: Armona in 1926 and King City in 1935. She shares her experiences living in a tent and a small house, her difficulty in school because she moved so often, why The Grapes of Wrath was offensive, why it was important not to show that you were poor, describes what happened at the inspection station on California's border, and her experiences with domestic work and her employers.
