Midshippmen of the California Maritime Academy
Midshipment of the California Maritime Academy salute their former training ship, the Golden State, as she pulls out through Carquinez Straits on her first voyage as a tramp steamer. The Golden State trained maritime cadets from 1929 to 1946. The picture was taken as the bugler sounded "Attention" and the colors dipped in salute. Standing with the midshipman corps on the forward weather deck of the CMA's new training ship Golden Bear is Capt. R. M. G. Swaney, far right, skipper of the vessel.
