Oral History Program Interview: Byrd Monford Morgan
Born in Council Hill, Muskogee County, Oklahoma on February 13, 1924, Morgan left for Clovis, California in 1934. He found similarities between The Grapes of Wrath and his own journey west. His interview includes the border patrols to California; descriptions of ditch camps and tent camp Tranquility; going to California schools as an "Okie;" way employers took advantage of Mexicans, "Okies," and other demographics; realities of obtaining financial aid; how The Grapes of Wrath was degrading to migrants; and his views on his life during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression.
